Koffee with Karan: Mallika and Bhansali sizzle

It was more out of curiosity than anything else that I happened to tune in to Sunday’s episode of Koffee with Karan.

The guests? Mallika Sherawat and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Quite a quirky pairing for sure.

As the show went on, they seemed to find common ground, and got along like a house on fire. Mallika stayed true to her “bold” image. Forthright and blunt, making no bones about several issues; whether the supposed wars with her co-stars or her directors. She also insisted she suffered from a disorder, a ‘Superiority Complex’!

According to her, the most gorgeous male star was Rock Hudson (despite Karan’s attempt to put the ‘gay’ spin on it), and that Bipasha Basu had the best butt in the business!

Bhansali, for his part, was equally frank. He was candid enough to admit he preferred watching his own films and learning from them than watching other hit films. Apparently, he’s not even watched recent hits like Lage Raho Munnabhai or Rang De Basanti. He also spoke passionately about his upcoming film, Saawariyan, featuring two newcomers.

Both spoke extensively on the existence of “camps” in the film industry. They also reiterated that they shunned such camps, parties, Page 3 events and did not believe in networking or being in touch with other people.

Interesting opinions, but networking is quite essential in today’s world and living in isolation does not really work out in the long run. “Networking” also does not mean only attending parties and social dos. You can remain well-connected without being a social butterfly :-p

Overall, this was quite an entertaining and enjoyable episode. A pair who minced no words, unlike some of the “politically correct” and sanitised statements we see in shows nowadays.
