Every year, Valentine’s Day comes and goes, but I’d never given a thought to how big an industry this has become. With the current generation all gung-ho about V-Day gifts, cards, roses & chocolates, it is mind boggling to know that this is a booming Rs.1200 crore industry, according to a report in ET !!

This industry is estimated to grow by 20-25% year-on-year. What with the magic of spas, financial services, luxury brands and even tech brands, the business of mush isn’t about knick-knacks anymore. It’s a serious cash cow for marketers who are looking at fresh positioning planks to milk the occasion.

Though the major V-Day sales still come from jewellery, watches, cards, flowers and other trinkets, marketers of anything from mobile phones, mp3 players, laptops, gaming consoles to even financial products see huge potential in leveraging V-Day to establish a brand connect with their young consumers.
