Ubisoft snaps up Gameloft’s Pune studio
Game publisher Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest, has confirmed plans to acquire the mobile game development studio of Gameloft in Pune, India. This studio was set up in end 2006, the studio currently has a team of 120 developers and testers who will initially focus on creating titles for handheld consoles and reinforcing Ubisoft’s testing teams.
To those in the know, this was anyway a foregone conclusion, considering that the CEOs of both companies are brothers.
According to Ubisoft’s executive director of worldwide studios, Christine Burgess-Quemard,
“This acquisition will reinforce Ubisoft’s presence in Asia and the southeast region in particular. India has a promising future in the video game industry and this is an opportunity for us to establish ourselves in the country.”
