The stock markets began 2007 with a bang, the Sensex shooting up towards 14000, before closing the day at 13942, whereas the Nifty breached the 4000 barrier, closing at 4007.
Among the major gainers, Satyam closed at Rs 508.10, Maruti closed at Rs 970, Bajaj Auto rose to Rs 2739, Tata Motors – Rs 934 and TCS was at Rs 1251.
The Dow Jones fell 12463.15, the S&P 500 to 1418.30, and Nasdaq to 2415.29, obviously not sharing the New Year enthusiasm.
