Michael Schumacher gave a clinical performance at the French Grand Prix to wrap up his second win on the trot, following his win at Indianapolis. However, in order to reduce the gap between himself and Alonso, he has to ensure that he keeps winning and Alonso keeps off the podium, as the latter still has a sizeable lead over the German.

Alonso pulled one back for Renault, however, by pushing Massa to third place in a smart piece of pit lane work. Ferrari pitted thrice, and Alonso twice, allowing the Spaniard to finish second.

It is good to see Schumacher enjoying every victory, and it shows his hunger for more. Those calling for him to retire, including many within the racing fraternity, should keep in mind the fact that there is no real challenger to the Schumacher-Alonso duo. Take either of them out of the equation and F1 would be reduced to a boring spectacle. The likes of Kimi, Button, Ralf etc have all promised much, but failed to deliver. Montoya’s decision to quit F1 mid-way was a bit unexpected, though.
