Ravi Shastri’s commentary is now becoming soooooo monotonous, that if I’m watching a cricket match on TV, I can almost predict what he’s going to say next. In other cases, he ends up making statements that seem to pop right out of a novel !!

A lofted shot is ALWAYS greeted with…”that’s gone in the air”.

In a situation where one team is fighting back / on the verge of losing: “It’s not over till the fat lady sings” or “It’s not over till the last ball is bowled”

For a streaky or lucky shot, “It doesn’t matter how the runs come as long as they come”

and just recently, during an IPL match, “That’s gone like a tracer bullet”. My dad and I were watching the match on TV, and were left wondering if Shastri has ever seen a tracer bullet in his life or knows how and where they are used ? :)

Sivaramakrishnan is another who is a worthy upcoming competitor to Shastri in terms of cliched commentary. More on him later, though…

Give me Channel Nine anyday, with the likes of Richie Benaud, who make insightful comments, rather than inane remarks.
