Pune to go "unwired"

Today’s paper carried a news item that the much maligned Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has tied up with a company called Microsense and Intel to make Pune the first city in India to go wireless (with Wi-Fi / WiMax connectivity). This will be called the “Unwire Pune” project.

Microsense will roll out the network and offer broadband wireless services initially from Deccan, Sambhaji Park, Aundh, Baner and Model Colony, all to be completed in the next 6 months.

This should result in 24 hr Internet connectivity, available throughout the city. However, people can experience seamless connectivity in Sambhaji Park and the PMC Building with immediate effect.

Fingers and toes crossed !! Hope this is indeed a success… 🙂
