Pay more for booking airline tickets online
If you thought e-tickets was the in thing while booking your flight tickets, think again.
LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) SpiceJet and IndiGo now levy a web transaction charge of Rs.50 per ticket, which means the total surcharge payable for even a one hour flight will now cost upwards of Rs.2,000.
Though the airlines claim this is being done to cover their costs (call centre, internet connectivity, server maintenance etc), I don’t think this is a step in the right direction. The whole purpose of e-ticketing was to bring costs down, as compared to a few years ago when we used to get mini booklets as tickets regardless of the flight duration. We are in an age where people are becoming more tech savvy and comfortable with conducting such transactions online, which actually makes things easier and convenient for everyone.
These charges are more of a nuisance, and need a re-look, in a somwehat similar manner to the removal of the earlier 2% surcharge levied by merchant establishments on payments by credit card or even the scrapping of entry load on mutual funds if purchased directly from the fund house.
