Consumers who pay their electricity bills within seven days from the date of issue of the bill will now get a discount of one per cent as per a directive from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
This is being implemented due to the efforts of the Sajag Nagrik Manch (SNM). They have been following up on this matter for the past six months, and finally the great MSEDCL has modified it’s billing software to accomodate this one per cent discount.
The MSEDCL guys of course have never seen eye to eye with MERC have frequently clashed with them in the past as well, notably in terms of the load shedding protocol for Pune.
Recently they declared that they would buy power at a costlier rate just to ensure students did not suffer during their exams, however, I’ve yet to see any kind of let up in power cuts, both at office and home.
