Nokia announced that they were recalling batteries (Model – BL-5C) which have been used in almost all their newer handsets.

The batteries, manufactured by Matsushita between Dec-05 and Nov-06 have a problem, namely that they could overheat and cause the battery to dislodge. Nokia has played down such fears, but to be on the safe side, they are recalling all such batteries.

The thing to remember is that ONLY batteries having this model number AND manufactured by Matsushita are being recalled.

You can check this by visiting the
Nokia website. Once you input the 26 character identification number present on the reverse of the battery, you get a reply informing you whether your handset battery is eligible for replacement.

Luckily, the battery in my N70 is not manufactured by Matsushita, so no worries there !!
