No plastic items allowed at Sinhagad Fort

It seems all visitors to Sinhagad Fort carrying any plastic items and littering / disposing of them there will be made to pay a penalty ranging from Rs.50-Rs.100, thanks to the efforts of the environmentalists.

How does this work? Well, visitors need to pay a deposit at entry and all their plastic items will be counted. Upon return from the fort, if they are found carrying less plastic than before, that deposit will be retained in the form of a penalty.

While the initiative is a welcome one, I think the amount is a trifling one. It should’ve been more in the region of Rs.500 or more if it is to be a deterrent.
