If you always thought an Integrated Circuit (IC) was made up of three elements, namely, the resistor, the capacitor and the inductor, well, till now, you were quite right.
However, a fourth element has now come to the fore, the memristor, short for memory resistor. This can theoretically enable a computer to ‘remember’ it’s last state even if switched off.
The work done by HP Labs on memristor technology is available in the May edition of Nature magazine, and you can also read more about it.
