Massa records second win but Hamilton is the leader
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa led from pole to wrap up the Spanish Grand Prix with ease, with the McLaren duo of Hamilton and Alonso placed second and third respectively, whereas Kimi Raikkonen retired after 10 laps with a mechanical problem.
Massa had a scare in the pits when after refueling, his car was enveloped in flames from the extra fuel spillover, though luckily for him and Ferrari, he did not lose any time due to that.
However, the most stunning aspect of the whole situation is that newbie Lewis Hamilton, who got on the podium for the 4th straight time, is now the championship leader, although he has yet to win a single race. He has 30 points to Alonso’s 28 and Massa’s 27.
This is a simply amazing performance and can be put in perspective when you realise that of so many F1 drivers, very few actually even make it to the podium in a lifetime of racing, and this kid has yet to face a situation when he’s been off the podium.
Also got a glimpse of Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari pits, and it seems to have been quite a short sabbatical for the maestro, though I was curious to know his current role within the team.
