Felipe Massa finally came good after the Sepang horrors, winning the Bahrain Grand Prix after being on pole and leading throughout the race.

However, it was great to see rookie Lewis Hamilton turning in yet another tremendous performance. He finished second to wrap up his third consecutive podium finish, and in the process roared to the top of the championship leaderboard with Alonso and Raikkonnen, all tied at 22 points after three rounds. He also set a record by becoming the first driver in F1 history to record a hat trick of podium finishes in his first three races.

Fernando Alonso seemed to struggle during the entire race and seemed out of sorts, finishing fifth, as first Raikkonen leaped ahead a place with some smart pit lane work, and then eventually, he had to make way for a much faster Nick Heidfeld, who finished fourth ahead of him.

During the final moments, there was an interesting conversation on the team radio when Renault boss Flavio Briatore was egging on Giancarlo Fisichella to overtake Jarno Trulli. Trulli of course, was sacked by Briatore a couple of years ago, and was in no mood to qive any quarter either, ultimately finishing ahead of Fisichella, who managed a solitary point, finishing eighth.
