One of India’s most successful bowlers, Anil Kumble, announced his retirement from One day internationals, but left the door open on his Test career.

He wanted to be a part of the World Cup side, but barring the game against Bermuda, was unable to make it to the playing eleven against Bangladesha and Sri Lanka.

Kumble finished his ODI career with 337 wickets from 271 matches, which is quite a fantastic record for someone always ridiculed for not spinning the ball like a conventional spinner. Rather, his bowling style reflected a variety of deliveries that would skid through like a top spinner, relying mostly on his unerring accuracy and bounce from the pitch, that often caught batsmen by surprise.

Among his other talents, his ability to maintain sustained pressure on batsmen and choke one end up will be sorely missed.
