It was a double treat for Indian cricket as shortly after India beat Australia in the 1st final of the CB tri-series, the Under-19 team managed to beat South Africa in a rain marred final at Kuala Lumpur.
Initially after watching the Indian team bat and reach a shaky 159, all hopes seemed lost. The bowlers however quickly put the brakes on the Safs, reducing them to 17-3 when rain intervened. South Africa was then set a revised target of 116, and they fell short by 12 runs, ending on 103-8, India taking two wickets in the last over.
India had won this tournament in 2000, and lost to Pakistan four years ago. This victory was another addition to Coach Dav Whatmore’s resume as well.
I also thought Captain Virat Kohli did a fine job with his bowlers, especially after the rain cut down the number of overs allowed per bowler.
So, all in all, a pretty satisfactory weekend for Indian cricket.
