In a turnaround from his earlier stance, where he said India must select Virender Sehwag in the test team to Australia, Ian Chappell, in his latest piece in the Sunday Mid-Day, now doesn’t seem to feel so sure anymore, especially the fact that Sehwag’s attacking abilities that were supposed to dominate the Aussie bowlers, now seem a liability, or a gamble !!

India has two choices as opening partner for Wasim Jaffer; the technically correct and run hungry Rahul Dravid or the flamboyant flayer Virender Sehwag. It would be a gamble to pick Sehwag but his attacking instincts if successful, would provide India with the perfect start and the Australian bowlers with more headaches than a New Year’s day brunch party.

Chappelli is sure playing it safe here, as this is a pretty commonly accepted fact when it comes to Sehwag’s batting style. Anyway, now that he is a part of the touring squad, there’s little one can do except wait and watch if / when Sehwag does get to play.
