An incident packed Australian Grand Prix saw McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton clinch victory, with Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber) and Nico Rosberg (Williams) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. To put things in perspective, only 7 of 22 cars managed to complete the race.

Force India’s hopes were dashed as Giancarlo Fisichella crashed out in a scrap with Nelson Piquet Jr, and the safety car was called out in the very first lap.

Kimi Raikkonen seemed to be heading for atleast a finish in the points at 7th place before the car completely gave way, forcing him to retire. Massa also failed to finish, leaving Ferrari without any points after the season opener. It remains to be seen if he can make a backdoor entry into 8th place, if Barrichello is disqualified.

In the dying moments, it was thrilling to watch Alonso and Kovalainen battle for 4th and 5th places, as the latter overtook Alonso in a superb move. However, he seemed to lose momentum on the start finish straight, allowing Alonso to reclaim his spot, which he held on to till the end.
