Chris Gayle brought up his second consecutive century, this time in a winning cause, as West Indies beat South Africa by six wickets in the semi-final of the Champion’s Trophy to set up a date with Australia.

Gayle hammered 20 boundaries, including three sixes, which brought the SAF’s to their knees. I was amazed to see the ease with which they overhauled the target, though there was a slight hitch when they suddenly lost a clutch of wickets, with Bravo being run out by Smith, who snapped up Lara, and Morton went for a duck.

The result was amazing considering the Windies played the qualifiers, and were also the only team to beat the Aussies. Gayle looks a clear contender for the Player of the Series award. His attitude, swagger and general demeanor remind me of the players in the world beating West Indies team of yore, headed by Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards.
