Well, this was certainly surprising, considering Ganguly’s form in the past year.
However, what really pissed me off was the timing of this announcement, which sucks big time. Why couldn’t the selectors have waited till the test series was over ?
The Indian team had gone through hell at Sydney and those events were a bonding factor which probably played a part in the Perth win. After all that, the selectors decide to announce the team for the one day series, and once again, Indian cricket is plunged into backroom politics, infighting, ego hassles, rumor mongering, allegations of back stabbing, favouritism and what not, with people taking to the streets and burning effigies to protest this !
Approaching the final test in search of a series levelling victory, this was the last thing we wanted.
There are two issues here.
-
Should Ganguly have been dropped?
-
Should the team have been announced after the test series ?
What do you feel ?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIts a tough call, but I think Ganguly missed the bus more for his lousy fielding rather than his batting. A one day team needs agile fielders who can save runs.
Having said that, I’d agree that the timing of the announcement was in poor taste, especially as all these guys will be playing the final test.
BCCI selectors anyway do things when it suits them so cant say about timing.
Dropping Ganguly was a big mistake. He and Sachin have best opening partnership in one day.
Yes to both !!
I think it was a bit cruel to announce this while the test series was still going on.
How can they expect Ganguly to be motivated enough in the final test? Dravid and Laxman should have expected this of course.
I feel Ganguly should have been retained.
selectors are saying its time to make way for fresh blood now. so if ganguly dravid n laxman are dropped even sachin should be dropped.
when the CAB person is asking sharad pawar about this decision, why pawar should say bcci is helpless and put the blame on dhoni ?????
these people are playing politics and also screwing up the team spirit.
