The Google Blog informs us that they’ve decided to rename Froogle to Google Product Search.

The decision to do so has been influenced by the fact that they felt people were unable to associate Froogle with what it was or what it did.

Personally, I’m not so sure myself, since we’ve seen over the years that once a product is launched, marketed well, AND if it works well, people invariably come to associate that name with the product, and there is sufficient brand recall as well, Orkut being a case in point.

Also, in keeping with the mostly wacky nature of all things Google, Froogle seemed more apt, whereas “Product Search” has a Microsoft-ish sound to it :)
