Probably feeling the heat from sites like Twitter that have a simple user interface and minimal clutter, Facebook has come out with a trimmer version of it’s popular social networking site.

Facebook Lite

Called Facebook Lite, it is an attempt to improve speed, usability and navigability on a site that was assuming ‘bloatware’ proportions, what with all those updates, groups, thumbnail pics and of course, the FB chat, which I found quite heavy and totally ineffective.

Once you sign  in, you are presented with a screen that seeks to explain what the FB Lite experience will be all about and the fact that it’s still a WIP…

Facebook Lite

Currently available to users in the US and India, here are some of the changes I’ve seen so far;

  • No FB Chat
  • No toolbar at the bottom
  • Sharing links not possible
  • Updates limited to available character space in the box
  • Not many images on pages now
  • Comments made by friends do not have their thumbnail pics
  • No fan pages
  • Videos play in their own interface as compared to within FB

Am still exploring, and it is definitely much faster and also easier on the eye, but for some odd reason, I still found myself missing the current look and feel. I guess it just takes a bit of getting used to.. like any new change !! :D
