Ed Zander steps down from Motorola

Motorola’s CEO Ed Zander has stepped down from his post, and handed over the reins to President and COO Greg Brown. Zander said he looked forward to spending some quality time with his family. However, he will remain as Chairman till May 2008.
Zander joined Motorola in 2003, and has worked previously at Data General, Apollo Computers and as President at Sun Microsystems. He was also the Managing Director of a VC firm, Silver Lake Partners.
As per Gartner’s latest rankings of the worldwide mobile phone market, Motorola, has slipped to 3rd place behind Samsung and Nokia.
