Today’s newspaper informs us that the Pakistan Election Commission has amended the Election rules, or to be more specific, ensured that Article 63 of the Constitution does not apply to Musharraf. Broadly speaking, the Article seeks to prevent Government servants from running for office, unless they have been retired for at least two years.

Then, in a hilarious move reminiscent of Laloo Prasad Yadav in Bihar, India and Marcos of Philippines, we learn that both Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf are now getting their wives to contest, trying to beat Benazir Bhutto to the PM’s post.

Nawaz Sharif’s brother, Shabaz says, “… it is the party’s demand that Begum Kulsoom Nawaz should come and return and take up the role in the absence of Nawaz Sharif. That’s totally democratic.”

Democracy re-defined? You bet !! :-)
