Carla Bruni, French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s girlfriend, has indicated that she may not be a part of the delegation travelling to India after all.

When their trip was originally announced, all the mandarins had their knickers in a twist over exactly how to treat Carla Bruni. Was she to be treated as his spouse or no? Would they sleep together in the same suite ? Would she be accorded all the privileges that the spouse of a visiting head of state should get ? Or would she simply be treated as a part of the delegation?

Phew, questions, questions…. I can imagine the babus heaving a sigh of relief as there won’t be any protocol problems now !!
