Canada uses cardboard cops to manage speeding traffic

In a bid to reduce speeding and traffic accidents, police in Vancouver, Canada are now using life-size cardboard traffic cops pointing a radar gun at oncoming traffic ! These cardboard cops are part of a police initiative called Operation Silhouette, to be operational for the next six months in various locations around the city.

They plan to deploy eight such cut-outs along Knight Street, where they face maximum instances of speeding, with motorists zooming along at 115 kmph in a 50 kmph zone.

Apparently, while testing, people found them so life-like, a tow-truck driver pulled up and started talking to it. 🙂

If only a similar solution could ease Pune’s traffic problems…. which is quite unlikely however, given that Pune’s fearless motorists do not fear even real cops !! :p
