Several BPO units in the city are set to face a logistics headache as owners and drivers of the cabs that ferry them are all set to go on strike today, May 19. Close to 80% of the workforce at these BPOs use almost 6,000 cabs for their daily commute.

The drivers and owners, affiliated to the Maharashtra Call Centre Drivers’ and Owners’ Association (MCCDOA), claim they have over Rs.1 crore in pending dues from the approved vendors servicing these BPOs. According to them, the BPO companies are responsible for ensuring that their vendors make payments on time to these cab owners, several of them who have apparently not been paid for some months now.

Almost all the BPOs have already put in place alternate arrangements to ensure zero downtime, which means that bus and jeep operators are going to have a field day today !
