BigAddaIn a bid to take on social networking sites based outside India, like Facebook, MySpace, Orkut et al, Reliance Entertainment has jumped into the fray with the launch of bigadda, a true blue Indian social networking site. Loosely translated, ‘adda‘ is a Hindi term for a hangout, and the site aims to capitalise on the recall and association this term is likely to have with the youth.

This is a market waiting to explode in India. Some 3-4 years ago, Ryze was the rage, then Orkut took over, and Facebook is the current favourite with it’s plethora of applications.

For now, bigadda is an invite based system, though. It comes loaded with all the stuff you would expect such as blogs, photos, videos, communities, but there’s nothing that has the BUZZ factor around it, or anything unique.

It will be interesting to see how quickly it can come up, though. Other players are firmly entrenched in the mindscape of people who use social networking sites, so bigadda.com has a fair bit of catching up to do. One problem they will probably not face is on the moola front though, with the Reliance (ADAG) group behind this venture ! :)
