Yes, surprising but true… 

 I happened to read reports which said Tata Indigo sedan and Renault Logan were the top selling sedan’s for the month of February, leaving other fancied names like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti SX4 behind.

However, numbers don’t lie, and here’s what they had to say;

  1. Indigo sedan - 3,322

  2. Logan – 2,753

  3. City – 2,310

  4. Verna – 2,132

  5. SX4 – 1,953

Apparently, commercial fleet operators have taken a fancy to these vehicles (Indigo and Logan), leading to increased demand. Having been a part of that industry for a while, I can believe so. Many operators have several branches in cities across the country, and it becomes important to offer standard models across these branches, so making bulk purchases is the norm. What also matters is the comfort level and the “big car feel”, all at an economical price.

In the above list, however, what surprised me the most was the SX4 lagging it’s peers. Not too long ago, it was touted the “City beater”, so this is certainly a comedown of sorts.
