Bal Thackeray to the rescue of Indian cricketers

Saw the morning paper and wonder of wonders, Bal Thackeray has come out in full support of the beleaguered Indian cricket team, asking fans and supporters not to target the players and their families.
He said winning and losing was all a part of the game, and though India’s performance in the World Cup left much to be desired, vandalising their homes or taking out mock funeral processions was not the correct way to express their anger and pain.
Though he was right in doing so, what really surprised me was this sudden change of heart, considering his outspokenness on such issues before.
In Pune, there were reports of Zaheer Khan’s restaurant, ZK’s, being targeted shortly after the India-Sri Lanka match ended, when miscreants threw stones and shattered some glass panes. Zaheer’s father, however, played down the incident, saying some maintenance work was going on !
