Fernando Alonso destroyed the field to win the Monaco Grand Prix for the second consecutive time, leading his team mate Hamilton by four seconds to a McLaren one-two finish.
However, even though Alsonso is now the joint leader with Hamilton, the Briton continues to astonish in his record breaking debut season. He has yet to be off the podium so far, and his performance till date has been fantastic. He also came close to challenging Alonso towards the end of the race, but actually overtaking him on the Monaco circuit was always going to be a mammoth task. Ron Dennis also seemed to have stepped in, telling him to back off and not try any heroics which could jeopardise their points position.
Massa finished third, adrift by over a minute, which is an eternity in F1. After starting from 16th place, Raikkonen still managed to carve his way through the back markers on the Monaco streets, just managing to finish among the points at eighth.
Towards the end of the race, it was pretty amusing and ironical to watch Fisichella, who was running in fourth place, being shown blue flags to make way for Alonso, who was coming up to lap him !!
This was truly McLaren domination at it’s best, lapping all but the top three, and Ferrari definitely have a bit of catching up to do as they are now 20 points behind in the Constructors Championship. Let’s see what Canada has in store..
